Reflection On Using Technology

Throughout this semester I have learned a number of helpful ways I can someday use technology in the classroom. At the beginning of the class I didn't think I would actually learn many new things to use in the classroom. However, I was extremely wrong about that. Learning how to make a teacher web page was really cool! I do think that someday when I have my own classroom I would use a teacher web page. I think it would be a great way to keep in contact with family. So that parents can easy be able to see what is going on in their son or daughters classroom each week. Another one of my favorite things I have learned from this class is how to use picnic! Even though this isn't something I would most likely use in my classroom I have had a lot of fun using the program to edit photos. Overall I have learned a lot throughout this semester.

Podcasting

Podcasting
(1) Definition or description of podcasting- A podcast is an audio or a video file delivered automatically to your computer.
(2) How you will use podcasting in your classroom- to share current events, class lectures, students' progress.
(3) Pros and cons of podcasting- A con about using podcasting is that you may not have the technology, hardware or software available to use. Also, the use of podcasting maybe confusing for people who are not good with working with technology. There are also many pros about using podcasting however. It is a new and fun way to teach. It is a step up from regular classroom styles. It will be attention grabbing for students and they may be more enthusiastic about doing their work.

Ethics

1. Ethics: Is a system of moral character.
2. I think ethics will affect your relation ships with your students and your colleagues. Someone who has strong moral character is obvious and people tend to trust, and like people who are positive and nice to be around. This is a good characteristic to have as a teacher. For students to be able to look up to teacher is a very important thing. Also for colleagues to do the same thing.
3. Pros of being concerned with ethics is that parents and administrators can be sure that students in your class are in a safe and positive environment. A con of being concerned with ethics is that a teacher can not in a public school “preach” or talk about their faith.

Virtual T our

(1) What is a virtual tour: A virtual tour is a simulation of a place that is actually real. It can be made up of panoramic images, hyperlinked images, and videos. Other elements such as sound effects, music, narration, and text can be used. Virtual tours are often used on computers.
(2) How you will use virtual tours in your classroom: In my classroom I could use a virtual tour as a field trip for my students. Often money can be an issue to take students on a field trip. Especially the idea of going out of state or out of the country for a field trip is somewhat unrealistic especially at the elementary level. However, the use of virtual tours opens up a whole new world for use in classrooms.
(3) Pros and cons of using virtual tours: Pros for virtual tours can be many things. Students and teacher are able to explore more. It is a new, fun, and interesting way to teach and show students different things. A con would be that not all people have access to computers. Also it may be very time consuming for teachers to prepare a virtual tour.

Teacher web page

Teacher web page
1) A teacher web page is an actual web page that a teacher makes for her classroom. Teacher web pages are used for many different purposes such as; a way for students who are absent to stay up to date on classroom activities and assignments, provides an alternate method for sharing information with parents, classroom activities can be shared with the community, family member can visit the classroom virtually, and also helpful information can be provided for students and parents.
2) Someday it is my hope to become a teacher. If someday I have my own classroom I would have a teacher web page for many reasons. I think having a teacher web page will be an awesome way to communicate with parents and also for parents to stay connected with what is going on in the classroom. Also I would use a teacher web page as a way for my students to be able to go to for information. If they miss a day of school they will be able to see what we did in school that day. Also, I might provide extra work on my web page for my students to be able to print off for extra credit.
3) A pro for using a teacher web page would be that this is a great way for parents to easily see what is going on in their child’s classroom. It is so important for parents to be involved in their children’s life and know what is going on in the classroom. For many parents who can’t take off work for open houses, parent-teacher meetings, ect. Having a teacher web page is extremely useful. A con with using teacher web page is that not all students and parents are available to computers and internet services. This would limit the usefulness of having a teacher web page if not all students are able to use it.

WebQuest Questions

1. What is a WebQeust?
- It’s a virtual lesson created through the internet and posted as a website of its own. Students will learn about a subject while performing activities and attempting a challenge at the end. This also gives students an opportunity to discover learning through technology and the internet.

2. Describe how you will use a WebQuest when you are teaching?
- It would be my goal for the students to first get a basic understanding of how WebQuest works. I would then put students in small groups and perform the lesson. As a class we could also do the lesson together. The main goal would be to have the students accomplish the objectives in the most independent way possible. I could also use simple WebQuests for student homework.

3. Indicate the positives and negatives of using WebQuests?
- A positive is that students can learn about technology and how it can help create a more exciting learning experience. Also WebQuest can provide students with valuable information. Students can also use WebQuest at home.
- A negative would be that a lot of time will be used up teaching the students how to use a WebQuest. Also not all students have computer access.

Reading Revolution: New Text and New Technologies

Presentation Title: “Reading Revolution: New Texts and New Technologies”

In this presentation three specific topics are talked about; blogging, wikis, and podcasts. These three different topics are used in different ways around the classroom. Blogs can be used as tools for literature responses. Wikis can be used to create online word walls and to teach students new vocabulary and lastly podcasts are used to respond to literature and through book reviews and author studies. The reason the presentation focuses on these three topics is because its focus is on new texts and new technologies for educators used to support readers. These three topics are some new ways for teachers to help students become better readers.

My Thoughts of Technology in Education

Technology can be a very useful tool in education. Technology can also serve as an aid for teaching. For example in a class a teacher can use computers so show class notes, assignment, and text scores. Student can use the Internet to help write papers, get information for projects, and many others. There are many different forms of technology besides computers that are used in education. Often in classrooms things such as over heads and smart boards are used. It is important for students to keep up with today's technology and to be taught how to use different kinds of technology's. The importance for students to become good at typing is become more and more important. Students are expected to be able to type papers and make powerpoints.
